HoS COMMENDS PERM SECS, CALLS FOR IGR INCREASE

Permanent Secretaries in the Ogun State Civil Service have been commended for their support, cooperation and tenacity in keeping the state moving, just as efforts must be geared towards surpassing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).


The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the commendation at a meeting of the Body of Permanent Secretaries at the Conference Room of the Head of Service, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stating that the Permanent Secretaries should be appreciated for ensuring that the Civil Service maintains its pride of place, with a positive impact on the progress of the state.

"For the state to be rated second in IGR performance is not an easy task. Thus, all efforts must be redoubled to enhance, retain and surpass it for the benefit of all citizens of the state’’, he said.

Mr. Fagbohun commended the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for being gracious to the Body and the Civil Service, through approval of promotions, filling of vacancies, provision of official cars for Permanent Secretaries, approval of palliatives for all Public Servants, regular manpower development cutting across all strata of the Civil Service, approval and formation of various committees for the reform of the Civil Service, provision of CNG bus for workers, end of year bonus, among other benefits.

Earlier, the Chairman, Body of Permanent Secretaries, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun and the Accountant General/Permanent Secretary, Treasury, Mr. Babatunde Aregbesola, in their separate submissions, gave kudos to the present administration for making the year 2023 memorable for all the workers.

In a related development, Mr. Fagbohun, implored members of staff of the Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, to take advantage of opportunities embedded in the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), scheme by enrolling in it to take care of their health needs, especially in case of any eventuality.

The HoS gave the advice while having his first meeting with the staff of the Bureau, at the Conference Room of the Head of Service, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, revealing that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the quarterly check-up of all the health of the workers tagged, "Know Your Health Status" and advised workers to take advantage of the free health check whenever the programme is advertised.

Mr. Fagbohun, while appreciating the workers for a job well done in the past year, urged them to enhance IGR by improving upon it, avoid leakages, wastages and eschew all forms of indiscipline, laziness and absenteeism, while dedication to duty and diligence must be embraced towards ensuring that all assignments committed to them were conscientiously carried out.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, appreciated workers for the support received so far and solicited more, in order to meet all set objectives.

OGUN COMMISSIONER UNDERSCORES ESSENCE OF EDUCATION SUMMIT

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has described the relevance of inviting stakeholders in the education sector across the nation and beyond, as key to discussing and consulting on the way forward, to engender growth and development desired by the government.

Prof. Arigbabu stated this in Abeokuta, during a strategic meeting with Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and Private School Owners, noting that Prince Dapo Abiodun was passionate about improving the standard of education in the state to meet international standards.

He added that government was committed to the provision of basic infrastructural amenities in schools such as, furniture, modern laboratories, well-equipped libraries, classrooms and examination logistics, saying parents should take up responsibility for their children by giving them instructional materials, school uniforms and sandals.

The Commissioner revealed that the present administration was planning to provide scholarship awards, work-study scheme and bursary for learners, to cushion the effects of present economic challenges on parents and support students for smooth academic process, warning school administrators that learning should not be disrupted for non-payment of levies.

Prof. Arigbabu reminded stakeholders of the undertaking forms, in both primary and secondary schools, to check and prosecute erring learners, who were against regulations and principles in schools, urging them to support government towards ensuring successful running of the educational system.

In her address, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, informed that the meeting was called to intimate the stakeholders about the policies of government and to highlight the responsibilities of individuals, especially parents, on how to further improve learners' academic growth.

Speaking on behalf of PTA, Prince Adegbenga Oyetayo and Mrs. Yemisi Omolaja, applauded the present administration for taking proactive steps in promoting quality education, appealing that the Ministry should assist schools in tackling burglary issues.

On their part, the Private School Owners, Mr. Adeola Oridota and Michael Kpiliboh, commended the present administration on the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) initiative, promising to cooperate with the government to further promote efficiency.

OGUN PLANS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR 10,000 LEARNERS

In a bid to further make education affordable and reduce out-of-school children, Ogun State Government has concluded arrangements to give out Annual Scholarship Award to 10,000 learners from primary education to tertiary level.

 Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made this known at Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, during the 2nd Term Pre-resumption Stakeholders’ Meeting with Principals, Head-teachers, Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Association of Primary School Teachers (AOPSTON), All Nigerian Confederation Of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) and security agencies.

Prof. Arigbabu explained that the Scholarship would be based on merit for indigent students, serve as a relief to parents and create an avenue for effective learning, adding that it was an opportunity for learners to benefit from the present administration’s free education policy and its commitment at rejigging the system.

He disclosed that the Ministry had put mechanisms in place to ensure adequate security of lives and property, as well as provision of 25,000 furniture to schools, promising that more would be distributed to secondary and primary schools across the state, to sustain qualitative, accessible and affordable education for the citizenry.

The Commissioner further hinted that government would soon hold an Education Summit, with the aim of proffering solutions to challenges confronting the education sector, launching of Education Trust Fund and digital lesson notes, among others.

 "As we go into the new session, let us be more dedicated, show leadership by good example and complement government’s efforts by doing your bits", he said.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, appreciated the effort, support and cooperation of all education stakeholders, saying the meeting was to charge and re-strategise towards resumption, to achieve desired result.

Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Rtd. AIG, Olusola Subaru, encouraged parents and teachers to ensure proper monitoring and guidance of their wards to prevent them from engaging in nefarious activities that could become burdensome to the parent and society at large, pledging that security agencies in the state would continue to ensure that schools, teachers and learners were secured.

In their separate goodwill messages, representatives of Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency and So-safe Corps, DCP Sagir Ismail; DCC Amos Ajayi, Mr. Ekundayo Williams and ACC Maroof Yusuf, respectively, commended the seamless effort of the present administration in facilitating adequate machineries to secure lives and property of the citizenry, saying it is everybody’s business, just as parents, teachers and learners should think security first, be optimistic, vigilant, proactive and not hesitate to report any security issues to appropriate quarters.

Responding, Chairmen, AOPSHON, ASSUS and SUBEB, Mr. Dauda Sanusi, Dr. Oluwaseun Agbesanwa and Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, respectively, appreciated Governor Abiodun for putting workers’ welfare in the front burner, especially the recent End of Year Bonus for Civil Servants, pledging their continuous support and cooperation with government to further develop the education sector.

JUSTIFY YOUR PAY- OGSIEC PERM. SEC

 Staffers of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), have been urged to justify government pay by being diligent and productive.

The Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Eng. Olabode Ojetola stated this, during a meeting with staffers, saying they should sustain unity and love that exist between the management and staff.

Engr. Ojetola enjoined members of staff to embrace positive change and initiate new ideas that would be beneficial to the Commission and the people of the state, noting that attendance and punctuality at work should be paramount to them.

The Permanent Secretary implored them to be security conscious, particularly on fire outbreak, revealing that the Commission would collaborate with the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter- Governmental Affairs on training of staffers on fire outbreak prevention.

Some of the staffers who spoke at the prayer session appreciated the Permanent Secretary for his fatherly advice, promising to uphold the Public Service Rules and Regulations, in order to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

TESCOM BOSS TASKS STAFF ON PRODUCTIVITY

The Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evangelist Olamilekan Ifede, has charged staffers to be productive and diligent, so as to be successful.

Ifede, who gave the charge during the New Year prayer session, organised by the Commission, at the Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, appreciated them for their support and hard work in the outgone year, urging them to do their work on time, love one another and work as a team to engender unity, progress and prosperity.

‘’I must say that all of you are really trying. TESCOM has got a very good name outside and I want to encourage you to improve on our activities; when we move together, we achieve more", he said.

Contributing, the Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, charged staffers to be diligent and take their assigned job seriously, encouraging them to move closer to God.

In their separate sermon, the Principal, Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School (Jnr), Obantoko, Abeokuta, Alhaji Bolaji Abdul-Hameed and his counterpart from Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Mr. Lasabi Olanrewaju, enjoined workers to tolerate and love one another, urging them to allow God to direct the affairs of their lives.

The clerics enjoined the people to continue praying for the leaders to be successful to deliver the dividends of democracy to all and sundry.
