OGSG TO ESTABLISH FRONT OFFICES IN STATE  SECRETARIAT

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the establishment of front offices in each block within the state secretariat at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in order to check the menace of touts.


The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, who made this known in his office at Oke-Mosan, while inaugurating an inter-ministerial committee on the establishment of front offices, said the initiative would enhance strict compliance to resumption time, curb loitering and other unofficial activities in the secretariat, hinting that Block A would be the pilot scheme.

He pointed out that members of the committee were expected to draw staff from Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as develop security personnel to man the front offices on rotational basis, partner private sector to key into the project as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, charging them to be alive to their responsibilities, to make the Civil Service more efficient and improve security within the office environment. 

The HoS noted that the state Civil Service as one of the best in the nation, must sustain the good standard, in terms of discipline, work-ethics and conducive atmosphere for government business to thrive.

While delivering a presentation on the project's objectives and methodology, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, who also doubles as the coordinator of the project, explained that the project would go a long way in curbing insecurity and other unofficial activities which is now a cause of concern, as well as enhance staff productivity.

Mr. Oyeneye added that it would also ensure strict compliance to resumption time, while unofficial excuses from work would be reduced, just as blockage of revenue leakages, occasioned by unscrupulous activities of touts, particularly around revenue generating agencies.

He highlighted various methodologies in implementing the policy to include, blocking of all entries and existing routes against unwanted visitors, hawkers, loiters, as well as touts, saying that “clock in and clock out” system for effective monitoring would also be introduced.

Members of the inter-ministerial committee include, Permanent Secretaries from Bureaux of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye; Cabinet and Security Services, Alhaji Olanrewaju Saka and others in Block A of the state secretariat.

The Permanent Secretaries Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Melutia Ogunremi, Civil Service Commission, Mrs Roseline Jacobs, State Pensions, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo appreciated the state government for the laudable project saying that distraction during office hours would be curbed and effectiveness would be enhanced.

OGSG SHOWS COMMITMENT TO MATERNAL, INFANT, YOUNG CHILD NUTRITION

Determined to improve the health status of its citizenry, Ogun State Government says it will continue to support initiatives geared towards reducing maternal mortality and child morbidity rate.                                             

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, gave the assurance in Ijebu-Ode, while declaring open train the trainers for the institutionalisation of the Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition course, organised by the Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Bank saying caregivers and relevant stakeholders should be exposed to global best practices on nutrition, which would serve as one of the basic determinants of good health.               

"Over two-thirds of malnutrition-related deaths occur in the first year of life which is often associated with inappropriate feeding practices", she said.

The Commissioner charged all frontline health workers, who interface with mothers and children to provide accurate information to households on positive impact of optimal maternal and young child nutrition, in order to significantly reduce malnutrition.

Speaking, Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare Development Board (PHDB) in the state, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola tasked participants to go into the communities for proper enlightenment on nutrition, urging them to see the training as an opportunity to improve their skills in service delivery in their respective areas.  

In their goodwill messages, representatives of the World Bank Accelerating Result Nutrition in Nigeria (ANRiN), Hajia Hauwa Usman; Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Muheez Seun and the South-West Zonal Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Mr. Rotimi Oyewole, appreciated the state government for its unwavering support at ensuring adequate capacity building for health workers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Coker has flagged-off a medical outreach put together by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Agape Zonal headquarters, Ikenne Remo, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Commissioner encouraged people to embrace the Health Insurance Scheme, to enable them access adequate care at any government health facility.

Highlight of the event was free health insurance for aged from 65 years and above, as well as free eye glasses provided by the state government.

OGUN INTRODUCES NEW TRADES IN TECHNICAL CURRICULUM

Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), in conjunction with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), has introduced six new trades into technical colleges curricula in the state, as part of efforts to ensure curriculum relevance, enhance educational outcomes, meet industry needs and promote the economic growth of the nation.

The Acting Education Secretary of the Board, Mr. Adebori Akinleye, made this known during a five-day workshop, to review and validate the National Technical Certificate (NTC) curriculum and National Occupation Standard (NOS) of the new trades in technical colleges, at Simeon Adebo Library, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Mr. Akinleye disclosed that the new trades introduced include, construction/ornamental craft, embellishment craft, automation/mechatronics craft, agronomy craft, fashion/textile machine repair craft, as well as Adire making craft.

He pointed out that the initiative would prepare students for modern workforce, ensure they acquire relevant skills beneficial to them, towards increasing their employability and boosting the economy, as well as align the curriculum with current and future labour market demands.

Speaking, the Project Manager, TVET, Mr. Fatai Osunsanya, revealed that the newly introduced trades would remodel the eight technical colleges in the state into centres of excellence, revealing that selected teachers were being trained in different industries annually, while ten students were currently undergoing training in the aviation industry.

In her submission, the Field Coordinator, Impact Evaluation, TVET, Mrs. Oluwaseun Fakeye, who assured that the present administration would award scholarships to support them, enjoined women to enroll in construction and mechatronics craft, saying, "We need more girl-child in that sector, as this will make them stand out".

In his presentation, TVET Specialist Consultant, OGSTEP, Mr. Unyime Eyo,  said regular review and validation would enable technical colleges to adapt to modern trends in the sector to make the curriculum more dynamic, stressing that the state government was committed to remodelling the sector and chart sustainable career pathways for technical students in the state,  thereby facilitating better academic and professional guidance.

Eyo noted that proper reviews would help in meeting accreditation standards set by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), to ensure proper accreditation of trades.

Speaking on behalf of others, a participant from the Technical Education Department, University of Lagos, Prof. Saheed Fakorede, commended the Board for organising the workshop, saying the exercise would enable students to gain competency in essential skills and enhance their careers.

ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION: OGSG ORDERS ESTATE DEVELOPERS, OTHERS TO ADHERE TO REGULATIONS

Real Estate developers, as well as investors in Ogun State, have been warned to comply with Town Planning laws and regulations by obtaining building permits and authorisation before commencing construction.

Acting General Manager, Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, TPl Itunnu Jolaoluwa, gave the warning during a monitoring exercise to assess compliance of developers, builders and investors in the Built industry in Obafemi/ Owode Local Government Area, noting that the Agency was committed to ensuring a safe construction of buildings in the state.

TPl Jolaoluwa noted that government had put in place 7-7-14 Policy, to ensure building permits were obtained in seven days for residential buildings and 14 days for special applications of non-residential buildings, emphasising that it would not compromise on the orderly developments of structures and building in the state.

“There is no reason for anybody to engage in illegal development because we have a 7-7-14 policy in which your building plan permit can be obtained in seven days. You can obtain your permit within seven days if you submit all required and necessary documents as and when applying, and for special applications, you will get it within 14 days. So, no reason for anyone to go into illegal development”, she said.

TPl Itunu Jolaoluwa explained that the Agency sealed up a company, as well as served "Stop Work Order" at other sites visited due to the contravention of government's policy on building permits by some builders and developers, saying the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was committed to international best practices, to have a safe and convivial environment for all.

While assuring that its offices are open to all residents and investors who want to do business in the state, the Acting General Manager implored residents to comply with building regulations, adding that anyone found culpable of the law would face the full wrath of the law, to serve as a deterrent to others.

IJEBU-ODE RESIDENTS CAUTIONED AGAINST INDISCRIMINATE DUMPING OF REFUSE

Residents of Ijebu-Ode have been cautioned against activities that could escalate flooding like dumping of refuse in drainages, among other environmental negligence during the raining season.

The Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, disclosed this to journalists while on tour of Itoro and environs, to ensure compliance towards promoting healthy living and preventing flooding during the rainy season.

"We are going to prevent environmental negligence, particularly during the rainy season; we have discovered that some people are in the habit of dumping their refuse inside the drainage once they notice it is about to rain and this practice among other unwholesome environmental practices is wrong in 21st Century.

"Refuse dumped inside the drainage will automatically block the channel of water, prevent free flow of the water and eventually cause flooding, due to the blockage of the drainage", he said.

The council boss, who disclosed that government had put in place measures to enforce compliance, warned that anyone caught dumping refuse inside drainages would be prosecuted, while traders along drainages should endaevour to always clear it, to avoid blockage, enjoining residents to maintain cleanliness.

One of the residents, Mrs, Amope Saheed, commended the Chairman for promoting healthy living and promised to adhere to environmental laws.

TRAINING FOR MANAGEMENT LEVEL OFFICERS HOLDS WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY

Determined to keep training and retraining for effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery, Ogun State government through the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of Head of Service, will hold a 2-day intensive training for Management Level Officers across cadres in the state Public Service.

A release signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, the training would come up between Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, 27 June, 2024 by 9:00 am, at Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta,

It indicated that the training with the theme, "Efficient Management of Public Resources" and packaged for selected Heads of Departments, would be declared open by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya.

 According to the release, all participants should be seated by 8:30 am.
