In celebration of her 58th birthday, Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has donated food items to the vulnerable, people living with disabilities and lepers across the state.


Represented by the wife of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Kemi Oyeleye, at the Lepers' Colony, Iberekodo, Abeokuta; Bishops Court, Remo Diocese, Anglican Communion, Sagamu and JDPC, Ijebu-Ode among others, Mrs. Abiodun said giving to the less privileged gave her fulfilment while celebrating her birthday.

She expressed gratitude to God for sparing her life to witness the day which according to her, was by the grace of God, promising to always spend her birthdays by putting smiles on the faces of the needy in the society.

In their separate remarks, beneficiaries of the donation, Mrs. Stella Ajileye of Bishop's Court, Sagamu; Mr. Adebowale Segun of JPDC, Ijebu-Ode and Comrade Jimoh Hammed of Lepers' Colony, Abeokuta, appreciated Mrs. Abiodun for reaching out to them, lauding the achievements of Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration.

‘WE'LL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY TO RESIDENTS’

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said his administration would ensure continuous provision of dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

Governor Abiodun, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Razak Daddah, stated this during the commissioning of the Dapo Abiodun Viewing Centre, at Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area Secretariat Complex, saying the structure would boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the local government, as well as create job opportunity for residents.

While pointing out that the initiative has direct impact on the people and should be well managed, the governor commended the Chairman, Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Hon. Lanre Ogunsola, for his prudent management of financial resources at his disposal to execute the various projects in the area which were in tandem with the” ISEYA” mantra of the present administration.

In his remarks, Commissioner, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Emmanuel Shofela, lauded the council’s boss for the developmental strides in the local government, saying his achievements was as a result of his yearnings to better the livelihood of the people.

On his part, the Olu of Owode, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo, commended the Governor Abiodun for his support, which facilitated the execution of avalanche of projects to the area, giving kudos to the Chairman for complementing government's developmental projects at the grassroots.

Earlier, Hon. Ogunsola, who stated that the council runs a transparent and equity system, in line with the present administration's slogan, "Igbega Ipinle Ogun, Ajose Gbogbo Wa Ni", added that all efforts were geared towards replicating the infrastructural and economic development to the grassroots in addressing the needs and aspirations of the people, appreciating Governor Abiodun for his passion, foresight and purposeful leadership.

Other projects executed include, sinking of motorised boreholes at Alapako-Oni, Owode-Egba, Fidiwo, grading of verges on Siun-Owode Road and construction of ultra-modern shopping complex at Magboro, among others.

ENCOMIUMS AS DILIGENT DAS, ADELEYE BOWS OUT OF ACTIVE SERVICE

Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, has described the retired Director of Administration and Supplies (DAS) in the Ministry, Mr. Kolawole Adeleye, as an astute, erudite and diligent administrator, who would be missed by the state Civil Service.

Hon. Hamzat, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Razak Daddah, stated this during the send-off ceremony, organised in honour of the retired Director, at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He noted that the conduct and unblemished record of the retiree while in service were exemplary, urging officers to emulate him.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, commended Mr. Adeleye for his selfless service and dedication to the cause and development of the Civil Service.

"Life is your artwork, create it, no one can do it for you. This implies that individuals should be deliberate about living right and impacting lives positively; have a good disposition towards work and ensure a good legacy is laid for people to emulate", he said.

In their separate remarks, Directors in the Ministry, Messers. Olusegun Ibirinde, Opeolu Aderinwale and Biola Ahmed, described the retiree as a mentor, humble, open minded, dynamic, resilient and a special breed, who had paid his dues and entitled to enjoy the dividend attached to retirement.

Responding, Mr. Adeleye, who thanked God for the grace to retire after 32 years of meritorious service, recalled that though the journey was rough, but God was gracious, appreciating the management and staffers in the Ministry for their kind gesture

He admonished Civil Servants to be diligent and persevere in the discharge of their duties, as well as ensure deliberate personal development, so as to become versatile and relevant in their fields, as hard-work was rewardable and their day of reward awaits them.

OGHA CONDEMNS HARASSMENT OF RESIDENTS BY POLICE FROM LAGOS

Ogun State House of Assembly has decried the continued invasion and incessant arrests of innocent residents of the state by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command, especially from Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan and Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCIID), Alagbon, with the sole aim of apprehending land grabbers and illegal claimants to chieftaincy stools in the State.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, condemned the act while responding to the submissions of a member representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, Hon. Adebisi Oyedele and his Yewa North I counterpart, Adeyanju Adegoke, who spoke under Personal Explanation during a Plenary session, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Rt. Hon. Elemide, who pointed out that some security operatives carried out illegal operations beyond their jurisdictions, due to vested interests of some criminal elements using them to perpetrate unlawful activities, stated that the action had continued to affect the security of lives and property of the people in the State.

He clarified that the state would not submit its sovereignty to other authorities under any guise, as government was committed to zero tolerance for land grabbing and other criminal activities, stressing that a Police Command domiciled in the state to rid the state of criminal elements, hence no operatives from Lagos should harass innocent residents.

The Speaker called on the Inspector General of Police to wade in on the issue, he urged the State Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner of Police and Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state to step up measures by activating all security apparatus to curtail criminal activities in the state.

PRINCIPAL-GENERAL ESTABLISHMENT LAW SCALES SECOND READING

The Principal-General Establishment Law, 2024, has scaled through second reading, as members of the Ogun State House of Assembly deliberated on the Bill and resolved that the legislation would give a legal framework for the establishment of four Principals-General in the state, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, as well as boost teachers’ morale.

Members took turns to speak on the Bill titled, "H.B No. 016/OG/ 2024- A Bill for a Law to Establish the Office of Principal-General in the State and for Other Matters Incidental Thereto or Connected Therewith", at a Plenary session at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Opening debate on the Bill, the sponsor, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, who had earlier moved the motion for its second reading, noted that the existing appointment of the Office of Principals-General in the state was a creation of an Executive Order, which needed to be given a legal framework, to aid its administrative continuity and allow School Principals so appointed in the state to be at par with their counterparts (Permanent Secretaries) in the core Civil Service in the state.

He lauded the Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining the appointment of Principals-General in the four zones of the state, explaining that the Bill when passed into law, would be a legislation of legacy and aid the career progression of teachers in the state.

Yusuf Amosun, Babatunde Tella, Adebisi Oyedele and Oluseun Adesanya, commended the sponsor, explaining that it would improve the performance and effective management of education authorities in zones across the state.

They described the Bill as an enabling legislation that would reduce administrative bottleneck in school administration, with improved delegated authority to the Principals-General, submitting that the creation of the office would enable the teachers to be more diligent in their service, as it would assist them to reach the pinnacle of their career.

Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, noted that the Bill sought to institutionalise the creation of the office for the appointment of the Principals-General and improve the conditions of service for the four officials, thereby improving their productivity.

The Speaker thereafter committed the Bill to the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, for further legislative action.

SPEAKER COMMENDS AWUJALE'S INITIATIVE ON PROFESSORIAL CHAIR IN GOVERNANCE

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has commended the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for his role as a rallying point for good governance through his significant contributions in human development by initiating a Professorial Chair in Governance at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

Rt. Hon. Elemide, in company of his colleague-lawmakers, gave the commendation while receiving a delegation from the Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies, led by the occupant of the Professorial Chair, Prof. Akinsola Agagu, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Speaker noted that the long reign of the monarch was dedicated to service and making positive impacts in all areas, including good governance.

Earlier, Professor Agagu, on behalf of the School, expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for passing people-oriented legislations, saying the copies of the book titled, "Reinventing Governance in Nigeria", would equip them in dealing with issues relating to governance.

He enjoined the legislators to take advantage of the School, commissioned by the nation's Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, to acquire more knowledge in governance and public service.
