TESCOM BOSS CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATION POLICIES
Stakeholders in the education sector of Ogun State have been charged to prepare for school resumption into the 2024/2025 academic session and ensure that policies of the government were properly implemented.
The Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge on a radio programme in Abeokuta, saying the cooperation of the stakeholders was needed to further improve the standard of education in the state.
Evang. Ifede noted that all agencies of government in the education sector had put in place necessary measures for a hitch-free resumption, calling on teachers, parents and students to complement the present administration’s effort in transforming education.
"The government on his part is doing the needful. We have augmented the teachers' workforce, a number of them have been absorbed into the system as permanent teachers and the recruitment is continuous. Parents, guardians and the society on their part must support the government by fulfilling their obligations too, so we can together raise a better generation", he said.
Ifede stated that though the economy of the country was bad, parents should strive to provide basic educational needs for their children to enable them excel in their studies.

SCREENING EXAMINATION (TEST) INTO SEVEN GOVT. SCIENCE/TECHNICAL COLLEGES, ONE GOVT. TECHNICAL/ VOCATIONAL COLLEGE HOLDS TOMORROW
Screening examination into seven Government Science and Technical Colleges, as well as one Government Technical and Vocational College for a 3-Year programme to obtain the award of National Technical Certificate/National Business Certificate (NTC/NBC) for 2024/2025 academic session, will hold tomorrow Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Government Technical College, Idi-Aba, at 8:00 am.
A release signed by the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, indicated that the exercise is for prospective candidates, who have completed their registration for the Screening Exercise through the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA).
It added that candidates must possess Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or National Examination Council Senior School Certificate Examination or Senior School Certificate Examination (NECOSSCE).
The release enjoined candidates to come along with the print outs of their registration forms, photocopy of their credentials and writing materials to ensure smooth conduct, assuring that adequate arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the exercise.
According to the release, candidates were advised to comport themselves during the examination, wishing them a successful exercise.

PRESERVE YOUR HERITAGE, OGUN DEPUTY GOV. CHARGES AWORIS
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has called on all Awori indigenes to work in unity and preserve their heritage to take its rightful place in the national consciousness.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele, made the call while declaring open, the 2024 Awori Summit, at the OPIC Event Centre, Isheri Olofin, noting that it was important to focus on leadership, education and economic development, in order to project the Awori image and deepen their role in nation-building.
Speaking on the theme of the summit, “Projecting Awori Image in Nation Building”, the Deputy Governor described it as apt and historically relevant to Awori, emphasising the need for all indigenes of the area to ensure socio-economic advancement of the land.
She encouraged key players and elders in the area to build strong relationships within the Awori community, saying their partnership would stand as strength for future generations.
While applauding the convener of the summit, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade for the initiative, Engr. Salako-Oyedele noted that it was a strategic approach towards promoting the rich culture of the Aworis, urging its leaders to support the move and ensure that it becomes a platform for meaningful action, rather than just discussions.
In his keynote speech, a former Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun (SAN), implored the Aworis to be resilient and ensure harmonious relationships for them to be reckoned with, emphasising the need to sponsor a documentary about their culture and traditions.
Earlier, Chairman, Summit Committee, Alhaji Abdulsemiu Yusuff, said the event became necessary, so as to build a viral and strong Awori tribe, noting that the land was a God-given abode of wealth to both indigenes and non-indigenes.

OGHA APPROVES 2025-2027 MEDIUM-TERM EXPENDITURE FRAMEWORK
Ogun State House of Assembly has approved the 2025-2027 State Medium Term Expenditure Framework (2025-2027 MTEF), earlier transmitted to it for consideration and passage by the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The approval of the financial framework by the lawmakers at the Plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by its Vice- Chairman, Hon. Wahab Haruna, who thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Hon. Lukman Adeleye and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
The MTEF report was later read and adopted sector by sector before the Committee of the Whole House, which saw to the adoption of sectoral allocations comprising the Personnel, Overhead and Capital Expenditures of the state’s different sectors for the years 2025-2027.
Thereafter, the Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff, moved the motion for the passage of the House Resolution, seconded by Hon. Adeleye Lukman and supported by the Whole House.
Rt. Hon. Elemide thereafter directed the Clerk of the House and Head of Legislative Services, Sakiru Adebakin, to convey the House Resolution to the concerned authorities, including the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Olaolu Olabimtan for the preparation of 2025 Budget.
It would be recalled that the lawmakers had earlier engaged Mr. Olabimtan, where they sought for a more budgetary allocation for the education and agriculture sectors, with a view to improve food security through mechanised farming.
The lawmakers who spoke at the session, including Hon. Yusuf Amosun, Damilare Bello, Adebisi Oyedele, Lukman Adeleye, appealed to the state government to ensure increased investments in mechanised farming and rural development, while improving on the funding of key sectors that would contribute to the ease of doing business.
Responding, Mr. Olabimtan explained that funding of other areas linking the sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, security and other state-wide intervention programmes were part of the strategies meant to fulfil the mandate in some of the sectors referred.
He also underscored the need to embark on agro-business and take advantage of its value chain to empower the people.

OGUN ASSEMBLY PASSES POWER SECTOR LAW 2024, RESOLVES LANDS ISSUE AT ILARO
Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the State Power Sector Law 2024, towards addressing the energy consumption challenge confronting the people and business owners in the state for improved electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
The passage of the Bill followed a presentation of the report of the Whole by the Deputy Speaker, Bolanle Ajayi, who also moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye and supported by other members through a voice vote, during a Plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause before the Committee of Whole, after which the motion for its third reading was moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Hon. Adeleye and supported by the Whole House through a unanimous voice vote.
Thereafter, Clerk of the Assembly, Sakiru Adebakin, took the third reading of the Bill before the lawmakers, following which the Speaker directed that a clean copy of the Bill be transmitted to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.
In another development, the Assembly has considered the report of the Committee on Lands and Housing on a petition from Ifedapo Community Development Association (CDA), on behalf of Olorungbemileke CDA in Oke-Ela and Akede Isale Osoba, Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, written against Phillip Otegbeye Family in Ilaro, in respect of an expanse of land in Oke-Ela.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Damilola Soneye, who rendered the committee report, the Assembly recommended that, "all occupants within Philip Otegbeye family land should pay a sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N350,000.00), as ratification fee on a plot of land, including developed and undeveloped land, to the family of Philip Otegbeye, as agreed by both parties through the intervention of Olu of Ilaro and Paramount of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, on Friday, 22nd March, 2024"

HoS ENJOINS WORKERS TO BE GRATEFUL TO GOD
The Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya has enjoined the state workers to make their prayers and supplications known to God with thanksgiving, as stated in the Holy Bible.
The Head of Service, gave this advice during the maiden edition of the Fellowship of Christian Workers International, Ogun State Chapter, at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying thanksgiving would always bring opportunities to rise above everyday challenges and worries in life.
Mr. Onasanya, who reiterated the importance of prayer to the nation's sustainability, advised workers to make giving thanks to God a practice, remain prayerful and lift each other in prayers and supplications, urging them to always ensure positive declarations, even in the face of economic hardship, while negative confession should be avoided.
In his goodwill message, Coordinator of the programme, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, said the Fellowship was established in August, 2014, at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja and currently in the 36 states and Abuja.
Oyeneye, stated that the purpose of the Fellowship include, praying for the government and people in authority to make the right decisions for the nation, promoting brotherliness, equipping and preparing Christian workers towards their retirement, among others, appreciating the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, HoS, Chairman, Body of Permanent Secretaries, Mrs. Funmilayo Dada and National Coordinator of the Fellowship, Evang. Israel Adeyanju, among others for their support.
In his sermon, Lead Pastor, Grace Baptist Church, Asero, Abeokuta, Revd. (Dr.) Emmanuel Ajayi, while speaking on the theme of the programme, “The Need For a Daniel In a Market Place”, emphasised the need for a ‘Daniel’ within the state workforce, explaining that, ’’Daniel was a man deep in knowledge and understanding, though he was living in exile, yet enjoyed his freedom’’.
He added that Daniel maintained his name and integrity in the face of temptations and trials, admonishing that the hardship currently facing the nation should not be an excuse for a Christian worker to lose integrity.
Some of the participants at the programme were, Mr. Samuel Bernard from the Federal High Court, Abeokuta; Mrs. Alaba Ige from the Bureau of Budget and Planning, as well as a retiree from the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Chaplain Oreniyi Osokoya, thanked God for His mercy on the state and commended the organiser for creating an avenue in a workplace for fellowship, saying it would go a long way in lifting the burden of workers.

COMMISSIONER TASKS TEACHERS TO EMBRACE MODERN TEACHING METHODS
Teachers have been charged to widen their horizon in modern methodology as to impart knowledge to learners, towards ensuring improved teaching and learning across schools in the State.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the charge during day two of the First Term Pre-Resumption Stakeholders meeting for 2024/2025 academic session with teachers and private school owners, at Lisabi Grammar School Idi-Aba Abeokuta, saying teachers should be prepared, focused and committed to making sure that their classes were interactive and interesting to learners.
Prof. Arigbabu hinted that the Ministry was working towards collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and soilless farmers to encourage farming in schools across the state, as a means of generating funds for school maintenance.
He reiterated that woodwork would be included in the school curriculum as a compulsory subject, to encourage entrepreneurship, thereby securing a livelihood for students after leaving school.
"We are committed to ensure Ogun State is second to none in terms of education; all hand must be on deck to ensure this is achieved. I wish you happy resumption and a successful term”, he said.
Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, enjoined teachers to be creative and innovative in delivering their lessons, adding that they should also relate well with learners, especially during this economic situation in the country.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, advised participants to strictly adhere to government policies and implement the deliberations of the meeting, be diligent and role models to learners in their respective schools.
In their separate responses, Chairmen, Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS), Comrade Oluwaseun Agbesanwa, Non-Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools (NASUSS), Comr. Olumide Oduneye and Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Oladipupo Sewakanu, represented by his deputy, Comrade Olufemi Okulalu, appreciated the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for being compassionate and considerate by employing new teachers to beef up the teaching force, as well as approving days off for civil servants workers, to ease the effects of the fuel hike, pledging the teachers’ continuous support to further enhance the education sector.

LG ELECTIONS: OGSIEC BOSS ASSURES POLITICAL PARTIES OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
Prelude to the Local Government Elections, Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), has assured political parties of equal opportunities during the polls.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, made this known during a media engagement in Abeokuta, stating that the Commission would be engaging more with political parties through constructive dialogue and feedback, as well as observation of party primaries, to ensure seamless elections.
Osibodu reiterated the Commission’s pledge towards conducting credible polls, saying, "if the process is seen to be fair, if the process is seen to be credible, if the process is seen to be transparent, then I have done my job. The results do not depend on the Commission but on the voters".
The state’s umpire noted that arrangement for logistics were in place, to ensure voting materials arrive early at the venue of each polling unit, maintaining that there was need for high calibre of people with proven track records to join hands in the administration of local governments, to strengthen democracy at the grassroots.
He stated that the Commission was working closely with the House of Assembly, Civil Society Organisations, women groups, youths and security agencies across the state to prevent security breach.
Osibodu warned those planning to disrupt the peaceful process to desist or face the wrath of the law.

ALWAYS EMULATE GOOD CHARACTER, SUBEB BOSS ADVICES CIVIL SERVANTS
Civil Servants have been enjoined to always emulate a good character and attitude while at work and after retirement to engender positive rewards.
The Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, gave the advice during a retirement programme, in honour of Princess Mosunmola Awolesi, who was the Head of Supply Unit, at SUBEB’s Conference Hall, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr. Majekodunmi noted that it pays to be diligent and transparent, while in service, adding that such virtues would not go unnoticed or be recognised by people later in life.
He enjoined others to emulate the good work of the retiree, as she had immensely contributed to the progress and success of the Board.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mikhail Adebola, described the celebrant as an epitome of humility, dutiful and passionate with her job, urging the civil servants to always demonstrate work ethics while on duty.
Speaking on behalf of other directors, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Prince Olabode Olusoga, described the retiree's behaviour as exemplary and worthy of emulation, saying she had left an indelible mark in the Civil Service.
Earlier, the Head of Procurement Unit, Mr. Oluwasegun Ojekunle, pointed out that the celebrant played a vital role in fostering a good relationship that exists between the Procurement and Supply Units, which cannot be overemphasised.
Mr. Ojekunle, who attributed the success being recorded by the celebrant to her unwavering dedication, professional excellence and noble heritage, which had continued to be an inspiration to many, reflecting a legacy of service, education, and leadership.
Responding, the retiree, Princess Awolesi, appreciated the management and staff of the Board for their support, saying the good moments and love that exist among them would always be remembered.
