Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Distributes Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) to Combat Malaria


As part of efforts to reduce the prevalence of malaria and scale up control of the disease, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government in compliance to  Ogun State government, in partnership with the Society for Family Health (SFH), National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) has commenced the distribution of 8,243 bales of nets totally  412,150  Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) across the area.


The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Adewale Wasiu  ably Hon. represented by his Vice Chairman, Abosede Balogun, made this declaration in his speech during the flag- off ceremony of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs), at the Local Government Hall in Ota.


He added that focus would be on rural dwellers due to their higher risks of contracting malaria, stating that the Ministry had intensified efforts among relevant stakeholders to ensure the exercise is highly productive in the State.


"There is empirical evidence of the high effectiveness of ITNs in malaria control. We believe that if we can achieve our objective of ensuring that for every two persons, there is one bed net to sleep inside, the burden of malaria would drop significantly", he said.

He said the distribution of insecticide- treated nets start today 19th November, 2024  between 8: am to 3:00pm from 19th - 23rd at all distribution points.

Describing the media as a strategic partner, the Director called on journalists and other media practitioners to help create awareness for the campaign, to boost demand generation for the distribution.



He enjoined the stakeholders with vanguard teams towards uplifting Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government into a greater heights saying all hands must be on deck with an aspiration in alleviating the yearnings of the masses.

Also speaking, the Health Educator, revealed that all the 16 wards in the area would benefit in the Local Government adding that some  centers across the ares had been designated for the ITNs for the campaign to be effective.

Reacting, one of the participants, Mr. Alagbe Goriola, described the exercise as a good development, calling on the implementing agencies to close the gaps observed in past exercise in the interest of the people of the area, especially children.
