AOOLG Chairman Vows to Combat Environmental Sanitation Issues in Markets
In a bid to find a lasting solution to incessant dumping of refuse in the market places in Ado/Ota Local Government, as well improving environmental sanitation in markets, the Chairman, Hon. Lawal Wasiu, has assured markets leaders of his plans to establish an enforcement task force that would melt out stringent measures against defaulters.
The Chairman, Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government, made this known when he received the markets leaders across the Local Government area at the Secretariat in Ota.
He stressed the importance of environmental sanitation, noting its significance for the health, safety, and well-being of market users and the community.
Lawal urged market leaders to educate their members on the maintenance of an hygienic pprocedure in the market environment and need to embrace Environmental Sanitation adding that the market leaders should not hesitate to report non-compliance to the relevant authorities in the Secretariat.
The Chairman promised to set up an enforcement task force to tackle the menace of drainage blockages and indiscriminate erection of structures urging the market leaders to accelerate due payments on shops.
The Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Junaid Wasiu Babatunde, urged the Iyalojas and Babalojas to support the local government by contributing positively to the development as well providing information that will help the chairman in his decision-making process.
Director of General Service and Administration, Mr Bisi Akinde, added that the marketers should imbibe the culture of staying within their shops and eschew road side display of goods to avoid unnecessary traffic.
In a separate comment Iyaloja Atan, Babaloja Iju, Iyaloja Lusada/Igbesa, raised concerns about the activities of the IGR Consultant on extension, who demands high fees and locks up shops at night adding that waste bin and refuse package Van should be provided by the Local Government.
