 GLO-SPONSORED AFRICAN VOICES CHANGEMAKERS HOSTS HOLLYWOOD STAR DJIMON HOUNSOU

This weekend, African Voices Changemakers, the popular CNN International magazine programme sponsored by Globacom, will feature renowned Hollywood actor Djimon Gaston Hounsou.


Born in Benin Republic in April 1960, Hounsou will share his inspiring journey and efforts to reconnect the Black diaspora with its African roots through the Djimon Hounsou Foundation, launched in New York in 2019.


The celebrated actor made his film debut in Without You, I’m Nothing (1990) and gained international acclaim for his roles in Amistad (1997), Gladiator (2000), and Forces Spéciales (2011). His exceptional talent earned him several awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Actor in Drama and the NAACP Image Award in 1998 for Amistad. He also received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor in 2004 and 2007, with an Outstanding Performance Award for Blood Diamond.


Through his foundation, Hounsou has championed African heritage and unity, spearheading initiatives like Run Richmond 16.19, which honour African culture and history.


Catch African Voices Changemakers on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with repeats at noon, Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Monday at 4:00 a.m. Additional repeats will air next week following the same schedule.
