Joint Efforts: OGSG, Ado-Odo/Ota Govt Crack Down on Roadside Trading, Advocate Clean Environment_
Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government in Collaboration with Ogun State Government is seeking the cooperation of traders and residents to curb roadside trading and maintain a clean environment.
Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, made this appeal while monitoring activities in the area, emphasizing the need to prevent traders from displaying goods on the roadside, which causes traffic congestion.
Oresanya said the purpose of the monitoring was to ensure that traders at various markets do not display on the road side thereby causing traffic jams directing the local government Environmental Department to put a caution tape from Sango-Ota under bridge across Ijoko road to Owode -Ijako in order to reduce the traffick bottleneck in the area .
He added that Government would not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse as well as pilling up of waste at market places, advising to intensify more efforts at cleaning the environment not only once a week but also on daily basis so as to imbibe the hygienic culture.
‘’Waste all over the world is usually given serious attention due to the fact that it imposes serious health hazard and considering challenges, Ogun State Government will not rest on its oars at bringing sanity to our markets and environment at large,’’ he saiid.
The commissioner also visited Tarraqua Limited in Ota to address community concerns about the hazards posed by the recycling tire processing company. He instructed the local government authority, community leaders, and the company's management to discuss a solution before considering seizure while further production should be stopped in the company.
In his response, the Chairman, Ado-Odo /Ota Local Government, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu said the call on the State Government to assist them with the provision of basic social amenities such as channel for run-off water amongst others is imperative in order to fulfil the electioneering campaign promises to the people of the area.
He assured that his administration will take weekly sanitation exercises seriously and prevent indiscriminate refuse dumping and roadside product displays, recognizing the importance of hygiene in preventing epidemics .
