Ogun State Ministry of Environment task force has swung into action towards eradicating street trading and display of wares on setbacks across the state.

The clamp down took place at panseke, under bridge, Omida, Sapon markets as well as Iyana-Motuary junction, within the state capital.

The taskforce, which included officials from the Ministry, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, (TRACE), So-Safe Corps and Environmental marshals led by the Special Adviser to the State Governor, Alhaji Faruk Akintunde, said the enforcement was necessary to make traders comply with environmental laws, on maintenance of setbacks for safety of lives and property, adding that the government was not out to inconvenient them, rather on the lookout for their safety.

He said, several warnings have been sent to the traders ahead of the raid by the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, adding that wares belonging to recalcitrant traders were seized and would only be claimed with payment of fine, saying the security of lives were paramount to the state government.

Reacting, a trader at panseke market, Mrs. Elizabeth Oladoyin, said that the Iyaloja and Babaloja of Panseke Market have sent out several warnings to the marketers to desist from displaying wares on the walkways to avoid traffic jams, and unnecessary accident that may occur.
