Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) has been appointed as the Sole Administrator to oversee the affairs of the oil-rich state. Here are ten key facts about the new administrator:

1. Former Chief of Naval Staff

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas served as Nigeria’s 22nd Chief of Naval Staff from July 2015 to January 2021, playing a crucial role in maritime security and anti-piracy operations.

Ibas joined the Nigerian Navy in 1979 and rose through the ranks, holding several strategic positions before retiring in 2021.

3. Expert in Maritime Security

As a naval officer, he spearheaded operations to combat oil theft, piracy, and illegal fishing, making him well-suited for handling security challenges in Rivers State.

4. Former Ambassador to Ghana

After retiring from military service, Ibas was appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana in 2021, strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

Throughout his career, Ibas received numerous military honors, including the Forces Service Star (FSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), and General Service Star (GSS).
