EDUCATION STAKEHOLDERS TASKED ON EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION
Stakeholders in the education sector have been tasked to ensure collective effort towards the success of government's policies and reforms.
The State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya said this in Abeokuta, while declaring open a 2- Day capacity building workshop organised by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), for Principals, Vice Principals and Middle- level teachers.
Mr. Onasanya stated that their commitment and steadfastness to upholding the highest standards of professionalism would continue to create an environment where both educators and students could thrive.
Speaking on the theme of the workshop, “Reforming the Teaching Profession”, the Head of Service stated that the event was timely as it directly highlighted the ongoing efforts being put in place by Governor Dapo Abiodun to reposition the education sector.
“The Governor's support for education has continued to yield remarkable results, while the State has remained at the forefront of educational transformation,” he said.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said the image of the education system had changed for the better with the aid of technology, urging the participants to make best use of the workshop for effective school administration.
In her welcome address, Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, pointed out that the workshop was important for the State teaching force to keep them abreast of trending events and to further equip them for efficient service delivery.
In their presentations, two of the resource persons, the Principal- General, Egba Division, Mr. Babatunde Ige and Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reform, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, spoke on the topics; Reforming the Teaching Profession: The Place of Principals, Vice Principals and Class Teachers, as well as Public Service Rules and Ethics for the Teaching Service respectively.
Responding, two of the participants, the Principal, Nawair- Ud-Deen Grammar School, Junior, Mrs. Rukayat Ojikutu and a teacher in Ikenne Community High School, Ikenne, Senior, Mr. Oluwole Awosanya, appreciated the State Government through TESCOM for the workshop and other welfare packages for the teaching workforce.
Other dignitaries in attendance were the Permanent Secretaries, Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, as well as her counterpart in the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko and Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, respectively, immediate past Chairman, TESCOM, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, Commissioners 11 and 1V, TESCOM, Hons. Moruf Adesegun and Ademola Adeleye, among others.

ADOPTION OF TASUED 'LL EXPAND THE SCOPE OF THE INSTITUTION- COMMISSIONER
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has highlighted the benefits to derive from the adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED by the Federal Government, to include the expansion of its scope in terms of more programmes and course of studies.
Prof. Arigbabu, the immediate former Vice Chancellor of the school, disclosed this while featuring on a television programme in Abeokuta, noted that TASUED being the Federal Institution would now have opportunity as standalone institution to enjoy Tertiary Education Trust Fund, (TETFund).
The Commissioner highlighted other benefits to include recruitment of more staff, uplifting the status of present workers, economic growth of the area, infrastructural renovation and development, as well as to increase the institution affluence and influence among the committee of Higher Institutions in the Country.
He added that the Federal Government would take over the funding and management structure, as well as worker’s salaries, saying the resources earlier accrued to TASUED by the State government would be shared among other State Institutions.
"The process of takeover will be a kind of transition to ensure nothing affects it, because TASUED already have a well-structured system, being the first University of Education in Nigeria and second in Africa," he said.
The former Vice Chancellor on behalf of the present administration in Ogun State once again appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the adoption and announcement, affirming that the development was facilitated by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

OGUN SUBEB LAUDS OLOWU FOR CHAMPIONING EDUCATION INITIATIVES
The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commended the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, for his unwavering commitment to the development of education initiatives in the State.
The Board Secretary, Dr. Mikhail Lawal, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Monarch’s palace in Oke-Ago Owu, Abeokuta, saying it was a valuable complement to the State Government's ongoing efforts to enhance learning opportunities.
Dr. Lawal stated that the flag off of the primary school teacher’s training programme and distribution of pairs of uniform to Pupils of Ansar-Ud-Deen primary school Ijofa Gbagura were among other significant contributions of the Monarch to educational development at both the Basic and Secondary levels.
While highlighting the Government's strides in transforming the education sector and ensuring access to quality basic education for every child, he urged the Monarch to continue championing initiatives that would make education more attractive and impactful, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
In his response, Oba Matemilola reaffirmed his passion for education, stressing the importance of equipping teachers with modern teaching techniques, pledging continued collaboration with the State Government to drive excellence in education.
The Monarch also called on the Board to implement strategies that would further strengthen the sector, particularly advocating for the preservation of the Yoruba language in public schools.

OGSG TO PARTNER OOLI ON LEADERSHIP TECHNIQUES
Ogun State Government in partnership with Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute (OOLI) is planning to build the capacity of Secondary School Principals on Leadership Management Techniques.
The representative of the institute, Prof. Peter Okebukola, speaking during the courtesy visit to the Office of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said Ogun State being the host of the leadership institute have been selected to benefit from the first cohort of the training, saying the institute was expecting the State to sponsor about 10 principals on 3 months intensive practical training during the long vacation.
"The best resource persons all over the world have been mobilised to deliver on areas, such as fund raising and resource mobilisation, strategic planning and vision setting for secondary schools, attribute of successful school principals, as well as digital literacy and use of educational technology," he said.
Responding, Prof. Arigbabu appreciated the institute for piloting the training with school heads in the State, promising the readiness of Prince Dapo Abiodun’s led administration to partner with the training centre to further get tips on strategic planning for the growth of public schools.
"The initiative is a laudable one, selecting Ogun State as pilot is also commendable. We as a government will look at the proposal and see how we can key into it for the effective management of our school system," Arigbabu said.
In another development, Prof. Arigbabu, while hosting the Authors Association of Nigeria (AAN), Ogun State Branch, led by the Chairman, Dr. Chris Omotosho, commended their efforts towards encouraging reading culture among the youths in the State.
He stated that, the Ministry would look into the possibilities of their inclusion into book review committee for better influence.
"The State giving you permission to use Simeon Adebo Library for free to hold your meetings is to support your good intentions of influencing young scholars intellectually," he said.
Also, the Federal Commissioner of Public Complaint Commission, Hon. Morakinyo Akinleye, said the purpose of his visit to the Ministry was to avail them the mandate of the Commission. Responding, Prof. Arigbabu pledged the support of the Ministry in whatever capacity needed.

LG BOSS CALLS FOR PEACE, PROGRESS OF THE COUNCIL
The Vice Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Salami Isiaka has called on Muslims and Christians faithfuls to use their respective fasting periods of Ramadan and Lent to pray for the progress, unity and peace of the Council, State and Country in general.
The Vice Chairman revealed this in an interview with newsmen, in sagamu, he congratulated both the Christian and Muslim faithful’s for jointly holding the fasting in the month of March, urging them to embrace the spirit of love, kindness, and generosity that characterise the sacred period.
He urged Muslim Faithful to forgive those who have offended them, as stipulated in the Holy Quran and desist from holding grudges against anyone.
Speaking, Chief Imam of Sagamu Sheu Jinadu Abdul - Quadri, said the season was a special period when God use to show mercy and forgive sins of the people, calling on the people to support one another and promote socio-economic well-being and cohabit peacefully without rancor.
On his part, Remo District Chairman, Eternal Sacred C&S Church, Supt. Gen Babatunde Salako said, Prayer and fasting are essential tools for spiritual growth and development. He encouraged citizens to utilise this time to seek divine intervention in addressing the country’s challenges.
He stated that collective prayer and fasting could foster a sense of unity and purpose among Nigerians, ultimately leading to a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
