 OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT PLEDGES URGENT REPAIR OF ODO PAKO BRIDGE

The Ogun State Government has pledged to put in place immediate palliative measures to mitigate the economic impact the collapsed bridge will have on the people of the Community in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.


Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, revealed this during a joint inspection with the Chairman, Ado -Odo/ Ota Local Government, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu in Ota.

 Oresanya said the activities of some dredgers contributed to the collapse which further exposed the bridge's basement to water coupled with flooding from Anglican Road, saying the government would not relent at reconstructing the collapsed bridge so as to alleviate the suffering of the people.

‘’The Ogun State Government will be committed to urgent repair that will minimise the economic impact, as the road is a major connector to Lagos Metropolis, which plays a critical role in regional trade and commerce,’’ he said.

Speaking, Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu, assured the community that there would be a joint effort from both the State and the Local Government to urgently implement palliative measures that would culminate in reconstruction of the bridge.

In the same vein the inspection team also visited Ijako, Nehemiah Grace Developers Limited dredging activities prompted commissioner Ola Oresanya to order the sealing of the site for further investigation.

He noted that, Ogun State Protection Agency (OGEPA) was working assiduously to promote environmental best practices and regulate the manufacturing, processing, distribution, and use of chemicals and other pollutants demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing environmental hazards and promoting development in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
